Hugh Byrne: Meditation helps see clearly in to the habits and patterns that cause suffering in our lives.

Services

Individual Sessions

  • Private meditation instruction. The practice of mindfulness meditation is simple—but not easy. While the basic practice of bringing a kind and non-judging awareness to one’s own experience is straightforward, our habits, patterns and conditioning are strong, and it can be difficult to stay present with our own experience.

In these individual sessions we develop the skills and practices that work for you to develop a regular meditation practice and enhance mindfulness in daily life.

  • Mindfulness counseling. Do you feel stressed, stuck in a rut, or occasionally overwhelmed with the challenges and stresses of work, relationships or daily life?

In these sessions we explore wise ways of working with these challenging situations through practices of mindfulness and compassion. Through our work together, you will build skills in bringing mindfulness to the challenges and stresses of daily life.

  • Working with the legacies of trauma through mindfulness and body-awareness. In these sessions we incorporate Somatic Experiencing—a mind-body approach to healing trauma—with basic mindfulness practices to help release the stored and unprocessed energies of past trauma. These sessions can help clear the way to greater ease and balance in daily life.

  • Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR)

MBSR is an intensive 8-week course that offers powerful methods for reducing stress and teaching ways to actively participate in your health and well-being. The course is designed to transform your relationship to stress, improve your health, and enhance enjoyment of life. If you are dealing with illness, chronic pain, anxiety, depression or coping with grief or loss, the course provides beneficial tools to work skillfully with these situations and conditions. It also is well-suited for those who seek to gain more balance and peace from the stresses and demands of work and daily life.

The class meets weekly with an additional one-day retreat. Participants are given practices to do at home on a daily basis in between class meetings to reinforce the concepts taught in class. Click here for a flyer and registration information on the next course being offered. Information is also available at Mindfulness Training Institute of Washington. I co-teach the course with Rebecca Hines, and the course curriculum we use is modeled on the curriculum developed at Stress Reduction Clinic at the UMass Center for Mindfulness.

  • Mindfulness in the Workplace. Together with my colleagues, Jonathan Foust and Rebecca Hines, I offer mindfulness meditation for stress reduction and wellness in the workplace. Through the Mindfulness Training Institute of Washington, we offer a variety of services, including customized workshops, tailored to your organization’s needs.
